"The process involved in creating our jewelry is at the heart of my designs. I use precious and semi-precious stones, pearls and antique beads with gold wires and chain. We also incorporate some cast and hand carved pieces. Almost every aspect of my jewelry is made by hand in our studio including all of our clasps and findings. We hand pick and use the highest quality stones and beads available. I am attracted to gems for their translucency, opacity, color and iridescence as well as the way light accentuates these qualities. Many of my designs are hand woven, using a warp and weft of chain and wire with stones and pearls. As is the aim of all my jewelry, these pieces are malleable and kinetic- draping with the curves and movement of the body.
Nature has a pattern but is slightly irregular. In this same way an object made by hand is also one of a kind. I look to the pattern, architecture, and colors of the natural world for inspiration. Adornment form other cultures, fabric, vintage fashion, and the beauty of women of all ages has informed me as a designer.
So much of what is made today is manufactured, and individual attention to detail at times seems lost. Also nearing extinction is consideration for the longevity of a design. Making handmade jewelry at this point in history keeps an age-old art alive.
When the jewelry we make is created and completed it begins it's own journey into the world. It is purchased, given and worn. My hope is that it may be passed down to another generation. In this way it is gathering it's own history that I have been a part of.
