Paul D' Olimpia
Paul D'Olimpia is an
exceptional and versatile artist who resided on
Martha's Vineyard for the past 27 years, recently relocating to his beloved
Arizona desert. He is well versed in a multitude of
specialized techniques for surface enhancement and stone setting, and is partial
to mixing his metals. Often a piece of Paul's will incorporate 18K Gold, 22K
Gold, Platinum or Sterling Silver, along with precious and semiprecious stones. A skilled
engraver, he will hand engrave a steel plate with an image, then press his metal
of choice into the steel, creating an embossed, three dimensional image. Not
content with only engraving metal, Paul also hand carves gemstones, creating his
own intaglios and cameos for his pieces. He also enjoys free-hand engraving
directly onto 18K Gold.
"I have this vision and an amazing commitment to the craft. There is a
lot of power in an object. I want these objects to be full of who I am at that
particular moment in time, so that when someone looks at a piece of my jewelry
they know that there is more there than metal and stone."
One can indeed feel the creative energy that Paul puts into his work, and
sense the inspiration he gets from nature. For him, the creative process is a
constantly evolving challenge.
